Rimini – A Queen Among Italian Seaside Resorts
One of the prettiest seaside resort cities in Italy, Rimini is often referred to as the capital of Italy’s tourist spots on the Adriatic Sea Coast. The place has an amazing night life and some of the best beach resorts of Europe. It has a long stretch of magnificent beaches that are dotted with restaurants, hotels, and nightclubs.
The pretty city is not only just a seaside resort, but also popular as an art and historic centre that has a number of Roman ruins, later Renaissance monuments and museums and offers the perfect combination of historic splendour and sandy beaches.
Rimini was founded in 268 BC by the Romans, who used it as an important point to link the northern and southern parts of Italy. They also built monuments such as the Arch of Augustus and the Tiberius Bridge here. The House of Malatesta was prominent in Rimini during the time of the Renaissance and patronized artists such as Leonardo. Rimini developed into a seaside resort only after the Second World War, when the city was reconstructed.
The city, which is in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, has many special attractions. You can start at the Piazza Tre Martiri (the city centre square) and visit the nearby buildings. Prominent among these are the Tempio Malatestiano (the main 13th century cathedral), town hall (with an art gallery), Roman amphitheatre, Arch of Augustus and the Tiberius Bridge. The Tempio Malatestiano was originally built in Gothic style in the 13th century, and has a marble façade.
After visiting the major landmarks, you can make your way to the seaside, where a lot of fun awaits you. You can simply relax on the beach, or swim in the clear water. Among the beaches of Rimini, Marina Centro and Lungomare Augusto are very famous. These also cater to a great nightlife and have a seafront promenade. Some of the beaches are private and have cabanas, umbrellas for daytime use. Of course, you will have to pay a fee for using them.
There are also options of windsurfing and renting jet boats. Beach volleyball and basketball are also popular here. Children can also have a great time, as there are several activities and games in which they can take part. Rimini also has thermal spas for various treatments. These spas have salt water pools, wellness centers and many more.
People who always crave for good night life should pay a visit to Rimini. There are many clubs present here that are open all throughout the night. These discos are present in the west of the town. There are buses that will take you there from the beaches. However, driving is a bit difficult here as the place is always packed with buses. Bicycles are the best means of traveling around here. You can comfortably reach the beaches, historic centers and other sites. There are bike rentals agencies operating in Rimini.
Getting to Rimini is also easy, as the city has as many as six railway stations, and is well connected from all major towns and cities of Italy. It is on the east coast rail line that stretches between Ancona and Venice. You can also take a bus to reach Rimini. The Federico Fellini Airport also has regular flights from other European cities.
